When you’re designing a pool area, whether it’s for domestic or commercial use, there are various things to consider.
We’ve found that people need more space to relax, areas for furniture and places to play safely.
On top of all of that, you need to choose a visual style for your pool that matches your own or reflects the kind of clients you want to attract. That means you need to put some thought into even the smallest details – including your pool tiles.
Modern pool tile design is very diverse, with lots of options available for you to create a unique, modern pool design. Today, we have a few things for you to consider when designing your modern pool.
Consider Your Copings Stones
There is much more to choosing your pool than the tiles and shape. If you truly want a modern feel to your pool, then you need to think about your coping too.
In the world of architecture, coping refers to the protective cap or lip at the top of a wall that gives products a ‘finished look’ and creating a frame for your pool.
Traditionally, natural stone pool copings are made from limestone, granite and sandstone. But, if you’re looking for a more modern twist you could opt for slip-resistant porcelain pool copings.
You can also play with the shape of the coping – rounded (bullnosed) is the classic choice. But square copings, with a pencil round edge is a great way to give your pool tiles a more sleek, modern look.
Live It Large
One of the most popular modern pool tile designs is a large format, 10mm porcelain tile in the pool tank/lining and 20mm grip slip-resistant porcelain tiles. Large format pool surround tiles, up to 1.2m, are very in vogue right now.
These tiles are perfect for bespoke swimming pool designs, especially if you want to create a bold, adventurous statement. They are also highly customisable. Because of their size, we can use a waterjet to create unlimited designs in a variety of colours and styles, for that unique and personal design statement pool.
10mm porcelain, in particular, is also a great choice lining modern pools because it combines a natural stone look with the performance of an engineered product, so you get the best of both worlds. They are resistant to both acid and alkaline-based chemicals, wear very well and are slip-resistant, so if you’re looking for rich texture and safety, then large format 10mm porcelain is a natural choice.
Materials Matter
Modern pool design is all about shape, texture and colour. All of which you can achieve with the right tiles. For example, if you’re going for a natural, rustic look, then natural stone tiles are a great way to go.
These natural stone tiles come in a range of colours from deep black to light natural stone in greys, pearls, browns, and even blues, which makes them a very diverse tile. Or if you want to create a statement inside and outside your pool, then Porcelain tiles are the way to go.
The materials you choose can have a huge impact on the final result of your pool, what tile designs you can select, and even how slip-resistant they are. If you’re not sure what material you want to go for, then we recommend seeing some in the flesh, or on your own interactive pool design, so you have a more complete idea of what the end result will be.
